'Cookies'(Page content © copyright) On 26th May 2011 the EU brought into Law an Amendment to the Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive 2003 which has introduced new legislation regarding the use of 'cookies' on European websites. The Government of the United Kingdom, through the Information Commissioner's Office, have said that in the UK, there should be a phased approach to the new Law over a period of twelve months.
This website cannot currently comply with the Law and we therefore set out our interpretation of your rights under the Law herewith. It is not yet clear how websites will be able to comply - as at 26th May 2011, the Information Commissioner's own website www.ico.gov.uk is one of the first to attempt a solution and yet it is not in full compliance itself.
What are 'cookies'?
Cookies are small computer files of letters and numbers downloaded on to your computer when you access most websites. They allow a website to recognise your computer (but not you personally) and are used in internet browsing for a number of purposes such as recording your preferences on a website that has allowed you choices. They are incapable of collecting personal data, yet the legislation requires that websites must explicitly request your consent to use cookies even though the majority are harmless, and it does not distinguish between the different uses of cookies, of which there are two types. - 'Session Cookies' are created when you begin to use a website and are subsequently deleted on exit or expire naturally over time. Most are vital to the satisfactory operation of the website that you are visiting - they record the contents of your shopping basket, collect browsing patterns, and maintain your preferences for future visits.
- 'Persistent Cookies' that do not expire. We do not issue these, though we have one cookie that lasts for two years and if deleted your computer will effectively forget that it has been used to visit us before.
'First Party' cookies are those installed by the website operator and are essential for correct operation of the website. 'Third Party' cookies are installed by other providers and are not essential. Some organisations may use persistent cookies to target your computer so that you may be provided with additional information that is thought to be relevant to you, though neither type of cookie can be used to store or extract personal information or data about the users themselves.
On this website, 'first party' session cookies are used for analytics and functionality and are listed below. Some are used to operate the shopping cart - if you (a) commence a transaction but leave the site without completing it, the cookies will remain on your computer for 48 hours from when you first started. This is so that you may pick up from where you left off, and these cookies are deleted when you complete the transaction within that period. If you have (b) chosen to 'Save' the contents of your shopping list with the intention of returning later, your Shopping List will remain available for 30 days, after which time it expires and is automatically deleted. Cookies are also used for Account Login and your Address Book, without which you would not be able to benefit from these services, and for 'Google Analytics'. The information gained from analysis is used to tailor our website in order to better serve future visitors, by monitoring the number of visitors, which pages are viewed, which country visitors are from, their type of web browser and screen resolution. Neither Rainbow Florist Supplies Ltd. nor the provider of the service (Google) collect any personal data through these cookies and WILL NOT target you as a result.
'Third party' cookies may also be installed (Twitter feed) but these are not essential to operation of the website.Your Options
