Understanding Wire Thickness and Gauge

Standard Wire Gauge (SWG) is an obsolete method of measuring the thickness of wire which dates back to 1735. However, it is still much used in Floristry and for Guitar Strings!

Basically the thinner the wire the higher the gauge, so 30swg is a very fine wire and 19swg is a thick wire.

Gradually metric measurements are replacing SWG so we have included both measurements in our product list below!
