What comes around......
At the dawn of floristry time, tributes were constructed from moss bound to a wire frame - this was time-consuming but allowed, with effort, three-dimensional shapes to be flowered. (sixties, seventies & eighties)The development of floral foam and then foamed bases produced huge time saving benefits, but were limited to flat, two dimensional (width & depth) shapes. (eighties & nineties) - 3D shapes were still possible using wire frames, but craftsmen capable of making them were in decline.A resurgence of interest in the three-dimensional form lead to the introduction, by Val Spicer of pre-formed, 3D shapes in the 'noughties' - though once flowered up, these can be heavy and possibly, fragile. The latest development - in late 2007 - is the 'Raised' base, purchased 'ready-to-assemble'. These comprise a conventional (per recent times!) hard foam base, topped with floral foam, with added relief features ready for flowering.
